Kaiser Permanente Open-Ended Strike

Kaiser Permanente has been in bargaining since July with the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW) to establish a new contract for our Psych-Social Chapter employees. This unit includes nearly 2,400 social workers, counselors, therapists, case managers, and nurses who support our mental health and addiction medicine care throughout Southern California. The purpose of this communication is to inform you that NUHW has initiated an open-ended work stoppage at various Kaiser Permanente facilities throughout Southern California, effective Monday, October 21, 2024.

November 18, 2024 Update from Kaiser Permanente:

"UHW is now in its fourth week of an open-ended strike at Kaiser Permanente facilities across Southern California. Our last bargaining dates were in late October, where only 2 new tentative agreements were reached, bringing the total tentative agreements to just 13. Reaching such a low number of agreements after 4 months and 20 bargaining sessions demonstrates NUHW’s lack of sincere engagement in the bargaining process.

No new bargaining dates have been scheduled at this point. We remain committed to reaching an agreement and will work with NUHW to schedule additional bargaining dates. We will update you as new dates are scheduled. We are pleased with how well our strike continuity plan is working, as we continue to deliver on our promise of timely, high-quality, mental health and addiction care. We are confident that patients are continuing to get the exceptional care they have come to expect."
